How should I handle date, time, and currency formats for different regions?

Picture this. Your campaign says "Sale ends 04/05/2024." To an American, that's April 5. To a European, it's May 4. Same email, two different deadlines, and now you've got missed sales and angry customers. The fix? Store dates in ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD) and render them in your subscriber's local format at send time. DD/MM/YYYY for most of the world. MM/DD/YYYY for the US. One database, infinite regional versions.

Currency is messier. You're not just converting the number. Symbol placement varies: €50 in Europe but 50€ in some places. Decimal separators flip: 1,234.56 in the US but 1.234,56 in Germany. Some regions use currency codes instead of symbols (CHF 50 instead of Fr. 50). Your system needs to know the currency code (EUR, USD, GBP) and your subscriber's locale to render correctly. And don't just swap the symbol. round correctly for each currency's conventions too.

Time zones are the trickiest. "Sale ends at midnight" means different things for people in Tokyo, London, and New York. You've got three options: specify the time zone explicitly ("midnight EST"), use your subscriber's local time with dynamic personalization, or express deadlines in relative time ("48 hours remaining"). Pick one and stick with it. Getting this wrong doesn't just annoy people. It signals you don't actually care about your international customers.

Next step: Audit your current campaigns. Check one email for dates, times, and prices. Are they hard-coded or dynamic? Are they timezone-aware? Start with locale-based personalization for dates and pick one timezone strategy for times. Most ESPs have locale libraries built in. Use them.

I need to localize dates, times, and currency in MY emails for different regions: 1. How do I set up dynamic date/time/currency formatting in my ESP? 2. Which regions use which formats (quick reference)? 3. How do I handle timezones without breaking personalization? 4. What's the easiest way to audit my current emails? My details (fill in what applies): - Email platform/ESP: e.g. Mailchimp, SendGrid, HubSpot - Template tool: ESP builder / custom code - Current approach: hard-coded dates / dynamic / unsure - Target regions: which countries/timezones - Current issue: dates confusing, wrong currency showing, timezone problems
