Will warmup and validation become built-in ESP features?

Still have a question, spotted an error, or have a better explanation or a source we should cite?

The trend is already underway. Several ESPs now include some form of warmup assistance and basic validation as part of their onboarding flow. It makes sense: ESPs have a strong incentive to prevent new customers from tanking their shared IP pools.

But "built-in" covers a wide range of quality. An ESP including a warmup guide in their help center is different from one that actively throttles your sends and adjusts your ramp schedule based on real engagement signals. Basic bounce validation (cleaning obviously invalid addresses before your first send) is different from running addresses through a multi-signal validation engine that catches spam traps and engagement risk. The built-in tools are often the former.

Specialist tools remain relevant for a few reasons. If you're on shared IPs, the ESP manages the warmup for the pool, not specifically for your domain. If you're on dedicated IPs, you need proper warmup regardless of what your ESP provides. List validation before sending to an old or purchased list is something most ESPs can't do as thoroughly as a dedicated service, because they don't have the signal breadth a specialist does.

The realistic near-term picture: ESPs get better at basic hygiene and alerting. They catch more obvious problems. But senders with large lists, high deliverability requirements, or unusual list histories will still benefit from tools built specifically for those use cases. Whether those tools are from Review My Emails or someone else is less important than using something that actually checks what needs checking.

If you're evaluating your current validation approach, what email validation actually checks covers what to look for in a validation service.

Evaluate my warmup and validation approach

I want to understand whether my ESP's built-in warmup and validation tools are sufficient or whether I need specialist services. Here's my situation: - My ESP: name - Whether I'm on shared or dedicated IPs: shared / dedicated / not sure - My list age and source: new / 1-2 years / old / mixed sources - My current bounce rate: % - Whether I've used list validation before: yes / no / basic ESP cleaning only Tell me whether my ESP's built-in tools are likely sufficient for my situation, or whether I should invest in specialist validation.
