A 25% reply rate feels amazing. But here's the uncomfortable truth: those replies are only coming from the people who actually saw your email. If half your list never received it, your reply rate tells you nothing about whether your emails are landing.

Reply rate measures how compelling your email is to the people who got it. Deliverability measures whether it reached them in the first place. Those are two very different things, and one doesn't prove the other.

Think of it this way. You send 1,000 emails. Spam filters quietly drop 600 of them. The remaining 400 land in the inbox, and 100 people reply. That's a 25% reply rate. Impressive, right? But 60% of your audience never saw the email at all.

To actually check your deliverability, you need different signals entirely. Things worth watching include your bounce rate, your spam complaint rate, whether your authentication records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) are set up correctly, and ideally, inbox placement testing through a seed list tool.

A high reply rate is genuinely a good sign. It means the people who do see your emails find them worth responding to. That's real engagement, and it does help your sender reputation over time. But it can't tell you how many emails were filtered before anyone had the chance to reply.
