How do dedicated IPs help large senders?

At high volume, reputation isolation stops being optional. When you're sending millions of emails a month, shared pool contamination doesn't just create occasional deliverability bumps. It creates unpredictable swings that are hard to trace and harder to fix. A dedicated IP removes that variable entirely.

Mailbox providers need consistent data to evaluate an IP. Large senders generate that data naturally: regular traffic, stable complaint rates, clear engagement patterns. That consistency is what builds strong IP reputation over time. Sporadic, low-volume senders can't sustain it, which is why dedicated IPs don't make sense below roughly 100,000 emails per month.

Large senders also benefit from traffic segmentation. Transactional emails (receipts, password resets) and marketing emails have different risk profiles. A spam complaint on a promotional campaign shouldn't put your transactional mail at risk. With multiple dedicated IPs, you can route each stream separately and contain problems to one segment without affecting the others.

You can also ask your ESP about how they assign IPs to understand which infrastructure you're on. Troubleshooting gets easier too. When all your sending reputation traces back to your own practices, you can actually diagnose what's going wrong. Compare campaign A to campaign B. See which list segment drove the complaint spike. On a shared pool, you can't always tell whether the problem is you or a neighbor.

Plan my IP architecture

I'm a large sender considering moving to dedicated IPs. I send volume emails per month across marketing / transactional / both and I'm currently on shared/dedicated. What's the right IP architecture for my volume?
