How do you test per-ISP deliverability?
Still have a question, spotted an error, or have a better explanation or a source we should cite?
You're looking at your test results and seeing Gmail inboxing 95% of your mail while Outlook keeps landing you in spam. That difference matters. Testing per-ISP (by individual mailbox provider) is how you diagnose provider-specific problems instead of chasing your tail with universal fixes.
So Start with your seed test results. If you've already sent test messages to seed addresses across providers, segment those results by ISP. Most seed list tools will let you filter and compare provider by provider. Calculate your inbox placement rate separately for Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and any other providers where you have meaningful volume.
The comparison reveals patterns. Strong at Gmail but weak at Outlook usually means provider-specific reputation issues or content filtering. You might be on Gmail's whitelist but not on Outlook's. Weak everywhere suggests authentication problems or poor sender reputation overall. Strong at some, weak at others points to either provider-specific policy differences or list quality issues (if you're testing to a list segment, that segment might skew older for certain providers).
Most mailbox providers publish their own reputation tools. Google Postmaster Tools shows you exactly how Gmail sees your IP and domain. Microsoft SNDS does the same for Outlook. Yahoo has postmaster reporting too. These tools show complaint rates, authentication pass rates, and spam folder placement specifically for each provider's network. Check them alongside your seed results to connect the dots.
Some problems need provider-specific remediation. If Gmail's postmaster tools show a complaint rate spike, you might need to focus on list quality for those addresses. If Outlook is reporting authentication failures you're not seeing at Gmail, your authentication setup might be edge-case misaligned with Outlook's stricter standards.
Next step? Segment your seed results by provider and compare inbox placement side by side. Then check that provider's postmaster tools. The combination shows you exactly where you're strong and where you need to focus.
