Can validation identify spam traps?

Still have a question, spotted an error, or have a better explanation or a source we should cite?

Not all spam traps look the same. Validation tools can catch some traps, but not the really sneaky ones.

Here's the split. Validation systems can identify pristine traps and typo traps using known databases of toxic domains and risky patterns. But recycled traps are the problem. They're abandoned mailboxes that still accept mail. They look completely valid. You can't tell them apart from real addresses without actually watching what happens after you send.

That's why validation alone isn't your full defense. You need engagement data too. Combined, they work better. But validation catches the low-hanging fruit, so it's still worth running before hitting send.

Next: Check what type of validation tool you're using and what it actually catches.
