How to interpret Yahoo’s postmaster feedback?

You log into Yahoo Sender Hub, verify your domain, and the dashboard shows your reputation as a category: good, neutral, or poor. No numeric score, just a label. And if you're staring at "neutral," you're probably wondering whether that's fine or a quiet alarm bell.

Here's what each category actually means for your delivery to Yahoo Mail and AOL Mail recipients:

  • Good means Yahoo trusts your sending behavior. Your mail is likely landing in the inbox without extra friction.
  • Neutral means Yahoo doesn't have enough data to trust you yet, or your signals are mixed. You're not blocked, but you're not sailing through easily either. Some of your mail may be filtered or deferred.
  • Poor means Yahoo has seen enough complaints, bounces, or spam signals to actively distrust your domain or IP. Expect significant filtering, deferral, or outright rejection.

The other metrics on the dashboard give you the context behind that label. Complaint rate is the most important one. Yahoo cares a lot about how often recipients hit "this is spam" on your messages. Bounce categories tell you whether you're hitting invalid addresses (a list hygiene problem) or hitting policy blocks (a reputation problem). Authentication pass rates confirm your SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are passing consistently. If any of those dip below 100%, that's its own investigation.

The one thing to avoid is reading a single day's data as a verdict. Yahoo's signals shift based on recent sending behavior, not a permanent record. One noisy campaign can pull you from good to neutral. Consistent clean sending can bring you back. Watch the trend over two to four weeks, not just today's snapshot.
