What is deliverability monitoring vs campaign analytics?

Still have a question, spotted an error, or have a better explanation or a source we should cite?

These two things often get lumped together in email reporting dashboards, but they're asking completely different questions. One asks whether you can reach the inbox. The other asks what happens after you do.

Deliverability monitoring watches the infrastructure and reputation signals that determine whether your emails get through. This includes inbox placement rate, bounce rates, spam complaint rates, blocklist status, authentication health, and sender reputation scores. The audience for this data is whoever manages your sending infrastructure . if something goes wrong here, emails don't reach the inbox at all.

Campaign analytics measures what subscribers do with your email once it's delivered. Opens, clicks, conversions, unsubscribes, revenue. This is what marketing teams typically look at when evaluating a campaign's performance.

The gap between them is significant. A campaign can show a great open rate while deliverability problems are quietly building. If your spam complaint rate is creeping up, or a blocklist just flagged your sending IP, campaign analytics won't tell you. You'll just notice fewer opens over the next few sends, by which point the damage is already done.

Good email programs track both, separately. A weekly deliverability review might check Google Postmaster Tools, bounce patterns, and complaint rates. A campaign review might look at click-through rate and revenue per email. Different cadences, different owners, different responses when something's off.

If you're not monitoring deliverability at all and only looking at campaign analytics, you're flying without instruments. Our free Blocklist Checker is a quick first check. Pair it with Google Postmaster Tools if you send significant volume to Gmail.

Help me set up deliverability monitoring

I read about deliverability monitoring vs campaign analytics. Help me understand what I should be watching: - ESP: e.g. Mailchimp, SendGrid - Sending volume: e.g. 50,000/month - Do I currently check Google Postmaster Tools? yes / no - Am I on any blocklists? checked recently? seen delivery issues? - What's my current complaint rate: if known - What I care about most: inbox placement, open rates, conversions?
