What other tools monitor sender reputation? (e.g., Talos Intelligence, BarracudaCentral)
Still have a question, spotted an error, or have a better explanation or a source we should cite?
Sender Score is a useful starting point, but it's only one signal. Different mailbox providers and spam filters pull from different reputation databases, and no single tool shows you the full picture. Here's what's actually worth checking.
From the mailbox providers themselves:
- Gmail Postmaster Tools shows how Gmail specifically rates your domain and IP reputation, along with spam rate trends. This is the most important one for high-volume senders since Gmail handles a huge share of consumer inboxes.
- Microsoft SNDS (Smart Network Data Services) tells you how Outlook sees your sending IPs. You'll see traffic volume, complaint rates, and whether your IP is flagged.
From the security filter side:
- Cisco Talos Intelligence gives you IP and domain reputation scores used by corporate spam filters powered by Cisco. If your emails are regularly going to business addresses, this one matters more than people think.
- BarracudaCentral shows your listing status on Barracuda's blocklist network, which sits in front of a lot of business mail environments.
For multi-blocklist coverage:
- MXToolbox checks your IP and domain against dozens of blocklists in one shot. It's the fastest way to catch a surprise listing.
- Hetrix Tools and MultiRBL do similar multi-list lookups and are worth cross-referencing if you want more coverage.
- Our own free blocklist checker runs the same kind of sweep and takes about 10 seconds.
One thing to keep in mind: these tools often disagree with each other. A clean bill of health from MXToolbox doesn't mean Gmail loves you, and vice versa. That's not a bug. It means each provider and filter network is drawing from its own data, based on complaints, engagement, and sending patterns it actually sees. That's why checking just one tool gives you a false sense of security (or panic, depending on what you find).
Want to know how often you should be running these checks? The answer changes depending on your sending volume and whether you're in active warm-up.
