The whole point of a dynamic segment is that it updates itself. You define the rule once ("clicked any email in the last 30 days") and your email platform keeps it fresh. People enter the segment when they click. They exit when 30 days pass without another click. No manual maintenance. No monthly CSV uploads. No wondering if your "engaged" list is actually stale.

Most email platforms call them different things. Klaviyo calls them smart segments. HubSpot calls them smart lists. Mailchimp has dynamic content blocks. Whatever your platform calls it, the function is the same. You set up a rule that checks engagement behavior at send time or on a schedule. The segment membership stays current automatically.

Why this matters: yesterday's engaged subscriber might not engage tomorrow. If you're using a static list from last month, you're already behind. Dynamic segments let you target moving targets. You're always sending to people who recently clicked or converted, not people who maybe clicked three months ago.

Check if your platform supports dynamic or smart segments. If it does, build one for "clicked in the last 30 days" this week. If it doesn't, that's actually a sign you might need a platform upgrade.
